Hyper-V Determine Host

Recommended Posts

We like to have handy the information of what server is hosting a particular virtual machine. On environments with a few Hyper-V servers that occasionally get moved around, this can be quickly determined.

To use this, you will need to create an Extra Data Field named "Hyper-V Host Server":

1) Open the System Dashboard and navigate to Config > Configurations > Additional Fields

2) Name the new field "Hyper-V Host Server", choose a section (we use Computer Role), set the Data Screen to computers, if desired enter a tooltip, and verify the field type is Text.

3) Save the value.

Hope this proves useful to some of you.

thanks for this. It wasn't working on the 2012 systems here so I modified the script, and swapped the process check for a service check, and specified vmicheartbeat as the service name. That seems to be a common service on various versions of HyperV. Hope it helps someone.

thanks again.
